MAMADOL: the Legendary K-Pop Moms

In recognition of International Women’s Day, it’s important we appreciate all the women who have left an impact on this earth and continue to do so in their own creative ways. We especially shine a light and show our support to the mothers who dedicate their time to raising the next generation of children, preparing them to become strong and well-educated. In this week’s Ladies Corner, we’ll be talking about the most prominent and remarkable K-Pop project debut group called MAMADOL, filled with hard-working mothers who were previously well-known as idols or actresses. Watch out world, here come the moms.

For the tvN variety show Mama the Idol, six legendary stars—who are also mothers—returned to the stage to create the project group M.M.D (which stands for MAMADOL). After taking time off to give birth and focus on raising their children, Jewelry’s Park Jungah, Wonder GirlsSunye, AFTER SCHOOL’s Kahi, Baby V.O.X Re.V’s Yang Eunji, Byul, and Hyun Jyuni showed the world that, even as mothers, they can take the stage once more. Since these women were once active as girl group members or actresses, it’s a beautiful return that brought endless nostalgia to fans of their music.

During the eight-episode program, these ladies competed for positions to showcase their talents and perform their first track as MAMADOL, “WooAh HIP.” Ever since its release on January 28, they have conquered the world as badass women and mothers in the music industry.

The single, produced by RBW’s Kim Dohoon and Seo Yongbae, is a dance track that has elements of trap with a trendy house beat. Combined with this addictive sound, the choreography adds voguing into the equation and makes their music video so powerful. If you haven’t seen the video already, their talents will blow you away. Seeing such strong and dedicated women perform this single will inspire mothers all over the world, reminding them that you can do it all—being a mother and growing older does not change or take away their skills. Adding to this point, the message of their song is directed to everyone who may be having a difficult time, saying, “You too can become like us,” referring to the members’ comeback as idols after becoming mothers. They have a tremendous aura and perform with such high energy; it’s heartwarming to see them enjoy the stage once more.

If it wasn’t already clear, we’re big fans of long-anticipated comebacks from idols as a whole. Seeing these six stars form MAMADOL, reach over 3 million views on their performance video, and blow everyone away with their single is certain to make you proud and emotional for these ladies. Whether you’re a mother or not, it’s undeniable that their temporary project group will be remembered for years to come, inspiring the next generation of mothers.
