YOUNITE Brings Back the Fresh and Youthful Debut Concept with “1 of 9”
It’s been a long wait for the debut of YOUNITE, with the final member being revealed over a year ago in January 2021. It is an exciting debut for fans of X1, as member Eunsang has finally made a group return to the scene. In a world of trends leaning toward darker concepts and noise music melodies, YOUNITE returns to the basics of the fresh and youthful concept in their debut.
“1 of 9” is a standard, upbeat pop track that places emphasis on vocals. It’s a catchy but predictable beat that will be refreshing for those sick and tired of an experimental sound. The cutesy sound is reminiscent of bubblegum K-Pop releases of the past and surprisingly stands out amidst the trendy use of noise music. It’s a nice reminder that sometimes we trust the basics for a reason.
The concept has the brand new group in a school setting, stressing their youth. The use of pastel yellows, blues, and pinks drives home the theme of innocence and youth. The look and feel of the video stands in stark contrast to the pre-debut release “EVERYBODY (Feat. DJ Juice),” which is a hip-hop influenced track with an overall different style. In “1 of 9,” we see the boys dressed in what appear to be school uniforms and soft sweaters. The shots of choreography interspersed into the sets promise an exciting performance potential.
