Let’s Make it… Orange—and Keep it Maintained

From BTS’s Jimin, EXO’s Sehun, to BLACKPINK’s Lisa, NCT’s Jungwoo, and even Super Junior’s Heechul, many K-Pop idols had their orange hair moment in the past, and the trend is definitely back for the spring-summer festival season. Here are some of the latest hair transformations that made us envy the vibrant pastel color, along with some maintenance tips if you decide to give it a try yourself.

Idols who Recently Turned Orange

BLACKPINK’s Jennie

BLACKPINK’s Jennie made a buzz online earlier this month when she debuted her apricot hue in an Instagram post. She’s been sticking to dark hair for quite a while now, so this new look excited the whole K-Pop fandom. Personally, it’s not my favorite color on her as it makes her face fade away a little, but without getting too deep into personal colors, she still rocks it and looks gorgeous! Not to mention, this hair color was a great match to her appearance in the Jentle Garden pop-up store in LA for her latest Gentle Monster collaboration. Standing in the middle of the garden decoration, she popped out and shined like a blooming flower. The singer also opened the festival season by going to Coachella and rocking her orange hair as her main festival accessory.

SHINee’s Onew

SHINee’s Onew also went orange for his latest solo comeback, his second mini-album DICE. His shade of choice is more on the copper side, giving the singer a very charming and soft look, especially with those freckles! Onew first revealed his new hair color on the group’s official TikTok in March, making fans excited enough to make his name trend on Twitter right away.

HyunA

While Onew showed the color’s cute and more innocent vibes, HyunA radiated its coolness. It’s not our first time seeing HyunA with this color; she had bright orange for Triple H’s “365 Fresh” back in 2017. Fans have been loving this choice, as orange really fits HyunA’s looks and bohemian style. She is finally back to orange, but with a more pastel shade this time, rocking it in a lovely editorial for Marie Claire Korea’s May issue.

Maintenance of Your Orange Hair

Vibrant colors are no stranger to any K-Pop idol, and they are not just familiar with it but also receive professional help to maintain and keep the colors throughout full promotion seasons. Although getting professional touch-ups is the easiest way to keep your desired color, it doesn’t mean it’s the only way—not to mention the fact that it might not fit your budget. If you are new to coloring your hair, try to keep up with the following basic suggestions to help maintain both the more electric and the toned-down pastel colors at home.

Are you the type that washes their hair every day, or can you go a few days without it? With colored hair, it’s best to only wash your hair 1-2 times a week. To further avoid fading, make sure to wash your hair with cool or lukewarm water. If you are looking for more permanent coloring, use colored shampoo, conditioner, or add color to your usual products, but make sure to always read and follow the given instructions of the coloring products you pick, as they all vary. This step will maintain or even refresh your color while giving the needed cleanse, hydration, and protection to your hair.
