Best of April B-Sides

There were a lot of great K-Pop releases in April, from group comebacks to solo releases. Here’s a look at just some of the best B-sides that last month brought to us K-Pop fans.

“Yeowoobi” - Onew

Taken from his second mini-album DICE, “Yeowoobi” is a song that carries such a unique vibe, fusing different music styles together to create a new, distinctive sound specifically for Onew. The song carries elements of lo-fi and ‘90s rock, with Onew singing in a “firmer voice to better express waves of emotions” against a backdrop of an atmospheric electric guitar and drum beats. With its unique sound, “Yeowoobi” is somehow beautifully haunting yet peaceful and comforting at the same time, while the monotonous chorus of, “Your love takes me higher than I’ve never been,” is one of most interesting and pleasing sounds to ever be heard in K-Pop.

“Wildfire” - MONSTA X

The fourth track from their latest EP SHAPE OF LOVE, MONSTA X’s “Wildfire” fuses EDM with piano and guitar backdrops to create an intense song that expresses the painful side of love. Although Monbebe has heard I.M’s singing vocals before, it’s really nice to hear a different side to I.M, who opens the song with a powerful verse that is sung instead of rapped. Not only does “Wildfire” showcase their incredible talents as vocalists, the song also expresses MONSTA X’s incredible teamwork behind the vocal scenes, co-written by members Hyungwon, I.M, and JOOHONEY, with Hyungwon also credited as one of the songs producers.

“Locked Inside A Door” - Dreamcatcher

Dreamcatcher have once again proven that they can perform just about any style of music they wish, with “Locked Inside A Door,” the second track off of their latest album [Apocalypse: Save us]. This song plays with the funk-rock style, creating an old school vibe that carries a similar sound to “Black or White,” a song from their first album [Dystopia: The Tree of Language]. It’s  not entirely the same, but there is definitely a similarity with the vibes they bring. “Locked Inside A Door” is fun to listen to, and is something that is perhaps quite unexpected from them. With Dreamcatcher known for their heavier rock sounds, “Locked Inside A Door” shows off the girls’ versatility with their music.
