LOONA Releases the Upbeat and Summery “Flip That”

Since being introduced to the K-Pop world, we’ve seen many different concepts from the members of LOONA. After focusing on darker concepts in the latter years, the girls have returned as a full group with a classically cute, summer feel-good track.

“Flip That” is reminiscent of earlier cute girl group concepts, giving it an almost retro feel as the girl groups these days rarely do a straight up cute concept, and has a driving beat with reggae influences that make it a perfect track for a hot summer day. The song is definitely lighter than the things they’ve been releasing up until now, without a major hard drop at the chorus and instead a light shift in the melody that places heavier emphasis on the vocal range of the girls. Much of the vocals remain in the higher soprano register to add to the softer and more feminine feel of the song.

In the video you’ll see the girls in pastel sets full of colorful flowers and bright sundresses to match. The visuals almost remind me of older Oh My Girl releases in terms of the use of a soft light and pastels, along with a heavy emphasis on nature. Lots of gingham prints and pinks are used in the costumes, along with simple, elegant white dresses. The solo shots also have the girls presenting themselves as soft and sweet, with bright smiles and relaxed demeanor (which in particular really fit Chuu, if we do say so ourselves).
