Here’s Some July Releases you May Have Missed

July has been a month jam-packed with releases, to the point that it’s been difficult to keep up. With so many big-name groups coming back, some other comebacks may have flown under your radar. Below we list a couple of comebacks from indie releases to new debuts.

Rothy - “Changed Number”

Rothy is an artist that may have a small following compared to bigger K-Pop acts, but those who listen to her are certainly dedicated and vocal about her talents–and they’re not wrong. “Changed Number” is her seventh single that dropped on July 5 and features a simple driving beat accompanied by her stellar vocals. The song is simple, yet it has a certain charm in that fact. It definitely gives the song a more indie feel while placing all of the spotlight on Rothy’s amazing voice.

IRRIS - “WANNA KNOW”

Anyone remember the debut of REDSQUARE in 2020? Well if not, here is yet another re-introduction to them. In June, it was announced that the group had rebranded as IRRIS and would make their debut on July 6. Three of the five REDSQUARE members joined the lineup, along with a new person. “WANNA KNOW” is an upbeat pop track with a jazzy break in the chorus that gives the song a unique flare

G.Soul - “Everytime”

While being on tour here in the United States, G.Soul released new single “Everytime” on July 7. For those that have been involved in the Korean entertainment world for a long while, we’ve watched G.Soul go through quite a bit in his career, and as such many are very excited when he releases new music. He certainly has a very distinct voice, and “Everytime” is a softer summertime chill song that has a very sweet feeling.

Sunye - “Glass Heart”

This one is another throwback to the early Gen 2 listeners. For those unfamiliar, Sunye is a former member of Wonder Girls. She is known for initially leaving the music industry to create a family, and now has three daughters and a husband. She was inactive from 2013 to 2018, though she wouldn’t be seen in the spotlight until 2021 with participation in the group MAMADOL. “Glass Heart” is her comeback release after signing with Blockberry Creative in February, and it really showcases her beautiful vocals in a classic acoustic melody. We love to see queens return to their careers, especially in an industry that seems to only value unattainable youth.

LOCO x Hwasa - “Somebody!”

This is the second collaboration between the MAMAMOO vocalist and K-Hip-Hop powerhouse. These two make a great duo, and having popular K-Hip-Hop artist LOCO come together with K-Pop vocal queen Hwasa is great exposure for both genres of the Korean industry. “Somebody!” is an upbeat pop track with elements of retro R&B that makes it infectious, and the harmonization between the two singers is simply divine.

Hezz - “Churup!”

We’ve got another previous generation artist coming back this month! Hezz (also known as Hong Eunjin) is a former member of SONAMOO and participated in the 2017 survival show The Unit, where she took home the top vote for the female contestants and joined the lineup of UNI.T. She certainly hasn’t had an easy run in her career, but the solo comeback really showcases her vocal talents and why she was so popular in her run on The Unit. If you’re looking for a classic, bubbly K-Pop track, this will definitely be a favorite for you.
