Throwback Thursday: Agust D

For this week’s Throwback Thursday we will be taking a look at rapper SUGA of BTS, a.k.a. Agust D. His first solo mixtape, Agust D, was released on Soundcloud back in 2016. This album is fierce and encapsulates his love of old school hip-hop and his cool attitude while speaking on his personal feelings and struggles of the unpredicted fame as an idol rapper.

“Agust D”

With this self-titled track, Agust D does not hold back at all on the aggressiveness and swagger. “Agust D” flaunts pure confidence as he boasts all of his accomplishments to his haters. The repeated, “A to the G to the U to the S-T-D,” in the chorus is incredibly catchy and easy to rap along with while listening. The music video mirrors the coolness of SUGA’s charisma as he makes his escape out of an old trailer truck.

“give it to me”

“give it to me” also gives off a powerful tone as it is more of a diss track as Agust D flaunts his achievements to the people who told him he would never become successful. It is a hard-hitting rap track that is personal to his life as he goes through the hardships as well as his unexpected success.

As SUGA produces and writes his own music, his music is the perfect view into his mind and to explore his feelings and struggles. These two songs are a powerful introduction before listening to the mixtape. Check out the full mixtape below!
