Jongup Flaunts his All-Rounder Talents in “X.O.X”

It’s the long awaited comeback from Moon Jongup! Since making a splash on Peak Time, many have been anxiously awaiting new music from the former B.A.P member. We haven’t had new music from the soloist since the release of EP US in July 2021. Latest EP SOME features five tracks and is led by title “X.O.X.”

“X.O.X” is a deep trance melody, something notably different from previous releases. A lot of his music tends to have a more R&B slanted focus, so going with a deeper EDM melody showcases a very different feel. His vocals mesh very well with this genre. In this title he also dives into rapping in multiple verses, highlighting his versatility as an artist. While rapping was never his specialty, he does a nice job of incorporating it in this track. The addition of rap verses add more depth to the song and keeps it fresh, which is impressive for a soloist. My only gripe is I’m not the biggest fan of the chorus in comparison to the stronger verses, but despite that, Jongup does a great job of venturing into new genre territory.

As he is known for his performance, it’s no surprise that choreography would be the pinpoint focus of the music video. In the final verse we see Jongup channeling his inner Michael Jackson, complete with the signature black fedora worn by the musical legend. Jongup’s performance is certainly honed and perfected, and that shines through in the music video. The black leather pants and glittery silver jacket draw in your attention, and his stage presence can be felt even through the screen. He flaunts the exact charisma that got him viral attention on Peak Time, a smart move after a two-year hiatus from new music. He’s certainly not lost his charm one bit, and only seems to improve with age.
