Throwback Thursday: English Version Edition Part 2
In part one, we only skimmed the surface regarding English tracks. In this part, we will continue discussing the many K-pop hits that have an English version. There are plenty of songs out there, and you definitely know most of the tracks in this list. So, let’s take it back and talk about some iconic English versions of K-Pop tracks.
WayV - “Love Talk (English Version)”
“I can hear it callin’/ Loving the way you wanna talk/ Touch me, tease me, feel me up.” Spell it with me, everyone: I.C.O.N.I.C. We were all singing this song when it was released. “Love Talk” has two different versions. There is the original Chinese version and then the English version. The Chinese version is featured on their album, Take Over the Moon (The 2nd Mini-Album) - EP, and the English version was released as a single. The obsession we all have with this song is worth it. “Love Talk” is a track that we won’t forget. Between the R&B backing track and the seductive lyrics, this track is a 10/10.
MONSTA X - “SOMEONE’S SOMEONE”
The kings of English tracks came through with this one. “SOMEONE’S SOMEONE” is an English track featured on their all-English album, ALL ABOUT LUV. This album dropped on February 14, 2020, and has been on repeat since its release. “SOMEONE’S SOMEONE” is a beautiful love song about how we all need someone. Have you ever heard a song that makes you instantly dance? That’s what “Highway to Heaven” will do to you. “We’ll take a highway to heaven/ and I can’t wait to love you all alone.” I am singing this song word for word. NCT 127, an SM Entertainment boy group, released this English version on July 18, 2019, and rocked our worlds. The original was featured on their fourth mini-album NCT #127 WE ARE SUPERHUMAN. BLACKPINK - “Ice Cream”
“Come a little closer ‘cause you looking thirsty/ I’ma make it better, sip it like a Slurpee.” On August 28, 2020, BLACKPINK released their song “Ice Cream” featuring pop singer Selena Gomez. This upbeat pop-inspired track had us all grooving once it dropped. The collaboration was something we weren’t expecting, but it ended up being the sweetest surprise. The song is iconic and it’s the bright, girly-pop track that we needed during the summertime.
