Artist Highlight: TXT’s “Eternally”

It’s not often that groups come out with full story-based music videos that last 20 minutes, but TXT (Tomorrow x Together) knew how to be both chilling and beautiful in their long “Eternally” music video.

Let’s give some information and background on how “Eternally” spins into their haunting storyline. “Eternally” was released on May 18, 2020 as the ending song on their second album The Dream Chapter: ETERNITY. The song has a kind of twisted sound to it, and keeps the listener at the edge of their seat with the constant beat and tempo changes. It almost starts out as a beautiful ballad with the lyrics, “Don’t go breaking my heart,” to then bring the sound to an almost evil-like beat.

The group has a chilling storyline that brings in confusion and countless theories. Even four years after their debut, there is no clear answer. From what everyone can see, they are a group of five friends that continue to go through many events that lead them to crossroads. The music video for “Eternally” ties into all the previous ones and sparks new theories as to why Soobin gets dragged into a hallway, why Yeonjun is dead, and why Taehyun was the one that found him.

To start off the long music video, we can see all the members looking up into pure chaos while the screen flickers and shows them as their somewhat alter egos with random mystical body parts. As soon as Soobin gets snapped back into reality, we are taken into their practice room and things get more confusing and weird from there.

The video contains seven different sections, one for each member and two for the group. In each section, you can see the members are struck with fear and then find a sense of comfort after being dragged into a place where they can be at peace for a few moments.

The “Eternally” video is filled with beautiful scenes and ones that leave you wanting more answers, and we witness chaos but also the members being put into illusions that send them back into happier memories. All of this while calming music plays in the background. However, just like the song loops you into two different sounds multiple times, so does the music video.

Having a complex storyline is something that helps TXT stand out in the K-Pop community. Their music videos are just like their songs: beautiful, chilling, and addicting. Check out the music video and see if you can come up with any new theories!
