BLACKPINK’s JISOO Makes Her Solo Debut

Last but certainly not least, BLACKPINK’s JISOO has made her solo debut. Fans have been eagerly awaiting for when she would make her solo debut, and it’s been a long time coming. JISOO’s debut comes in the form of a single album, titled ME. Containing only two songs, the single album leaves fans definitely wanting more out of the BLACKPINK member. Nonetheless, it’s a pleasure to see JISOO front and center, getting the chance to hear more of her vocal color.

"FLOWER”

Taking the helm as the lead track off the single, “FLOWER” is a song that definitely is catchy and will get you moving. It’s a song that is simple and straight to the point. There are no surprises, as it has an addictive hook and chorus that you’ll find yourself singing after a while. “FLOWER” is all about falling out of love and continuing to move on. JISOO has definitely fallen out of this relationship, and like a flower, the love has wilted away. However, she knows that she’s going to be just fine, and throughout the music video you can see her slowly process this breakup and eventually get back to focusing on herself.

What takes the cake for “FLOWER” is how stunning the music video is. As JISOO is a fashion icon in her own right, it comes as no surprise that the music video is very glam and glitter. We are treated to choreography, as well! She looks absolutely amazing in her selected pieces, most likely all Christian Dior considering her known affiliation with the fashion house. While the music video doesn’t have a direct plot, JISOO is seen moving on and getting over the whole breakup. Perhaps the pearl necklace that she is seen admiring can be symbolized as the relationship she was in, and the scene where she rips them off (as pretty as they are) is her breaking free from what was holding her back. She knows that she’s going to be just fine and what will only linger is the scent of flowers that was pretty and nice, but will wilt away after a while.

“All Eyes On Me” is the other song on the single, and it gives fans more time to listen to JISOO’s vocal abilities that we don’t get to hear often. There is hope that there will be a music video to accompany this song as it’s more upbeat compared to its sister track. With BLACKPINK’s upcoming headline for Coachella 2023 this summer, “All Eyes On Me” would be perfect for the festival crowd.

All in all, it’s a solid debut for JISOO, and I truly hope we get to see more of her doing music projects. It’s great to see all the BLACKPINK members finally get their chance to have solo promotions. Be prepared to hear this single on repeat for a while, as once you start listening to it, it will get stuck in your head.
