Throwback Thursday: 3 Co-Ed Debut Group Songs Every K-Pop Fan Should Know
We all talk about our favorite boy and girl groups but rarely about co-ed groups. As rare as co-ed groups are seen in the K-Pop world, there are many out there that are still together and releasing music to this day. Today we are going to take it back though, to three iconic co-ed group debut songs that are well-known in the K-Pop community.
“GIVE LOVE” - Akdong Musician (AKMU)
On May 1, 2014, Co-Ed duo Akdong Musician or AKMU released their debut song “GIVE LOVE” from their debut album PLAY. The duo consists of members Chanhyuk and Suhyun who so happen to be brother and sister. Compared to the other debuts we had gotten from other YG Entertainment artists at the time, the duo's acoustic pop sound was new. The bright tone of the video and the smooth transitions from Chanhyuk's hard-hitting rap to Suhyun's smooth light vocals made an amazing debut that will never be forgotten.
“365 FRESH” - Triple H
This group under Cube Entertainment was the group we were all excited to see debut. Not only because they were co-ed, but because of the three talented people that made up the unit. This group's name was Triple H and the trio consisted of PENTAGON member Hui, former 4Minute member now soloist HyunA, and former PENTAGON member now soloist DAWN. The retro-themed trio released their debut song “365 FRESH” on May 1, 2017, on their debut EP 199X. This song captured the retro feel and was something “fresh” for us all to hear. Even now that the group sadly disbanded, this song is engraved in all our minds and remains iconic.
“Hola Hola” - KARD
Any Hidden KARDs out there? If so, this one is for you. If you hear the words co-ed group, most K-Pop listeners’ first thought would be KARD. This quartet is well-known in the K-Pop community for their electric and powerful music. This group is under DSP Media, with members BM, Somin, J.Seph, and Jiwoo. They released their debut song “Hola Hola” on July 19, 2017, on their debut mini album KARD 1st Mini Album ‘Hola Hola.’ The music video is bright and colorful with scenes of the beach and the members smiling. The song would make any K-Pop listener dance along and will go down in history as an amazing debut.
