Meet K-Indie Band: wave to earth
Have you ever heard music that feels and sounds like being in love? If you haven't, wave to earth is a perfect example of comfort and love. After a recent incline in fans due to trending songs, let's get to know them a bit more.
The group currently consists of three members: Daniel Kim, John Cha, and Dong Q. At the time of debut, Daniel and Dong Q released their single “Wave” on August 23, 2019. Less than five months later, the group released their first EP wave 0.01 after the addition of bassist John Cha. Despite their title as a Korean band, most of their music is written in English, which has given them a leg up in catering to Western fans. After the change of labels, the group is now managed under Wavy–fitting for their name, right?
Now if that caught your interest, let me introduce you to my favorite three songs that I think showcase who the group is and how amazing their sound is.
“wave”
Starting off with their debut song, I personally think this is a great introduction to their music if you're interested in getting into them. The song has that classic indie pop sound that's both calming and heartfelt. Most of their music is about love and discussing it with their lovers. This song explains the feeling of love at first sight and how it feels to look into another's eyes. If you enjoy long instrumentals between lyrics, this is the song for you.
Not only does the song bring comfort, but so does the music video. From sitting on a couch watching something projected on a wall to performing on the sand at the beach, the video and song both feel like happiness.
“bad”
The next song is on their newest album, 0.1 flaws and all., which is also the album that blew up on social media and brought them plenty of new fans. The song starts off strong with, “How can my day be bad when I'm with you / you're the only one who makes me laugh.” If that doesn't sound like love, I don't know what does. This song explains the feeling of being lonely until you find the one person that makes you happy and content.
Another thing I love about their music is how mellow the bass is in the background of every song, another reason it feels like comfort. 0.1 flaws and all. consists of 14 songs, some new and some previously released singles, but the consistent thing behind each of them is the calming sound of love.
“sunny days”
The final song on my list is actually the song that got me interested in the group, and this might be biased but it's my favorite. The melody is just like the rest: mellow and peaceful. “sunny days” is exactly what the title says, sunny and bright while also speaking about love. However, I feel as if this love is one you can interpret to be about whatever you might love: “We melt this love and recreate it / As we imagine it / That's how we make sunny days.” While the group's signature theme is love, after listening to this song, I also realized they speak about the happiness love might bring, which is why many find it so comforting.
The music video is peaceful and, to many, familiar. The video was filmed in the Philippines, and in true wave to earth fashion, it feels like home. From riding bikes together to playing the drums and guitars in front of a random house surrounded by happy children, the video feels like peace.
If listening to songs that bring you comfort during gloomy days is something that sparks your interest, wave to earth is a great band to get into. The group recently sold out their first world tour that is set to kick off in late August. If you want to check them out live, make sure you tune into their new and older music!
