Life Is a Piece of “CAKE” With ITZY’s Comeback
The girls of ITZY have made their return! KILL MY DOUBT is the seventh mini-album from the group with “CAKE” as the title track.
“CAKE” is a catchy and bright-sounding track with an almost techno instrumental that was produced by Jeon Goon and Black Eyed Pilseung. It has a similar early 2010s sound and is definitely a song that can be blasted in the car through the summer! The lyrics encourage listeners to not care what others think about them and go through life by saying it’s as easy as cake. The song is also supported by a lot of strong rap verses, particularly by Ryujin, but it’s also supported by the vocals, especially from Lia and Chaeryeong. Ryujin definitely stands out in this song in particular — this was her era to shine.
Going back to the vibe from the early 2010s, the music video also shows a lot of bright colors just like that time period as well. It suits ITZY’s concept well — it isn’t an ITZY comeback without the fun colors and bright aesthetics!
Prior to the release of the album, the group released two songs from the album including “BET ON ME” and “None of My Business.” This led to a general hype for the album release. However, “CAKE” has been met with mixed reviews by netizens, many thinking the group hasn’t had a solid comeback since “WANNABE,” whereas others think the song is cute and catchy. Many still complimented the girls’ talents and visuals but still have yet to come around to the song.
KILL MY DOUBT has six songs aside from the pre-releases and title, the three remaining songs being “Bratty,” “Psychic Lover,” and “Kill Shot.”
