Boys Planet Trainees Crash onto the K-Pop Scene as EVNNE
The next group from the highly popular Boys Planet reality show has made it onto the scene. EVNNE, standing for Evening’s Newest Etoiles, made their official debut on September 19, though their formation and debut has been the talk of the industry now for a number of months. The group consists of Keita (formerly of Ciipher), Park Hanbin, Lee Jeonghyun, Yoo Seungeon, Ji Yunseo, Moon Junghyun and Park Jihoo. The septet makes their debut with mini-album Target: ME and title track “TROUBLE.”
In many ways, the title track reminds me of early Stray Kids, especially the element of noise music and in the rap verses. Those that aren’t a fan of a noise music base are definitely going to have difficulty digesting this one since it’s so prominent and prolific in the melody. The EDM influenced melody definitely does have a certain catchiness at its core, but it does feel like sometimes the noisy elements drown out everything else. Regardless, it does help make the song memorable. I felt that the rap verses fit best with this music style, but the vocals in the chorus were great too. The song definitely brings high energy of youth, fitting for the visual concept.
When hearing the track without viewing the music video, you’ll probably visualize a group of rebellious teenagers. That does happen to be spot on with the visual concept, which has elements of street hip-hop style in the fashion influences. Metallics and black with contrasting neon colors paints a loud picture to match the song, and a mischievous aura is seen in the stage presence of the boys. You’re not getting cute and wholesome kids here, that’s for sure.
