JENNIE’s Got That Pretty Girl “Mantra”

Anticipation has been high for this one: JENNIE is back with her new self-empowerment single “Mantra.” The release marks her first since establishing her own label, Odd Atelier.

“Mantra” moves at a fast pace, especially at its catchy chorus where JENNIE’s vocal rapping is bound to get stuck in your head for the remainder of 2024 (the song is aptly named, I’ll give it that). The instrumentation is rather sparse, relying predominantly on the groovy beat with the occasional pops of brass. JENNIE herself is what carries the song, especially in the second verse where she lets her rich vocals take charge in what is a wonderful contrast to the rest of the rap-heavy track.

The music video for ‘Mantra” feels like a fashion show, with JENNIE donning an endless amount of different looks as she struts her stuff around Los Angeles. Against grungy industrial sets, she shines like a star in all her glamor (especially those looks in which she’s platinum blonde). She’s clearly having fun in the performance-based video, which makes the song all that easier to enjoy—though let’s be real, this is K-Pop’s “It Girl’ we’re talking about here. She could simply breathe and gain more fans. But, I’m glad she decided to bless us with “Mantra” anyway.

Check out the music video for “Mantra” below and prepare to be singing it indefinitely.
