82MAJOR Joins the October Comeback Frenzy with “혀끝(Stuck)”
Rookie boy group 82MAJOR joins the crazy comeback schedule this month with their second mini-album X-82. After gaining more notoriety with their first comeback “촉(Choke),” the sextet is back to solidify their position as a hip-hop influenced group. If you’re looking for a high-energy feel with an old school hip-hop twist, “혀끝(Stuck)” will be right up your alley.
As a millennial, upon first listen, “혀끝(Stuck)” had a pretty nostalgic feel that hooked me in. Much of the melody is made up of classic hip-hop elements popular in the late ‘90s and early 2000s, which is an excellent era for music. I like that the track immediately starts out with a smooth rap verse, setting the tone for the rest of the track. The beat of the chorus makes it super easy to groove to, which makes it even more addicting. It’s also nice that the vocal lines bring in a similar swagger that the rap verses do, which brings the track together. Despite this being my first time really listening to 82MAJOR, I found this song to be a great introduction to the group, showcasing their musical strengths. One added quirk in the track is the instrumental tempo slow down at the very end of the track, used as a dance breakdown in the music video. It’s super cool, giving the song a unique and memorable twist.
Admittedly, even just the opener of this video hooked me in thanks to nostalgia vibes. It kicks off with an old school ‘80s feel, both with accompanying music and the static visual effects on the screen, reminiscent of VHS tape introductions back before we had everything digitized. The light and humorous tone of the video is welcome in our current stressful environment, and while silly, still gives off some Jackie Chan movie vibes in a modern context. A lot of choreography shots are also spliced into the story, which shows another strong point for the group: performance. As someone who knew virtually nothing about 82MAJOR before sitting down for this comeback, I thoroughly enjoyed this release and think many others will too.
