VANNER Returns with the Energetic “JACKPOT”

VANNER’s story has been an interesting one to follow. The five member group originally debuted back in 2019, but the general masses were unfamiliar with the group until they took the number one spot in popular show Peak Time (at least if we’re going by album sales). Since their success on Peak Time, however, the quintet is finally seeing return on their hard work, finally breaking 100,000 album sales on their first mini-album Veni Vidi Vici. Now, five months later, the group has returned with their second mini-album Capture the Flag featuring title track “JACKPOT.”

“JACKPOT” is an upbeat pop track that has an addictive, driving beat that gives pop punk vibes. From start to finish the tempo doesn’t slow, giving an impression of endless energy from the boys. There do seem to be inspirations taken from popular pop punk releases in the 2000s, which makes the track nostalgic on first listen. The vocal line is strong in this one for sure, especially in the pre-chorus. It’s extremely catchy, and for those unfamiliar I think it’s a great introduction and showcase of VANNER’s talents.

Now admittedly, what got me most intrigued was the images of the concept for this song. Red and black are the two main colors in the palette for both the images and the music video, and the more punk-influenced outfits had me hooked. The members of VANNER are older, so they do a great job in fitting into the concept of classy outlaws. The music video is fairly simple, but successfully tells a story without an overuse of sets or imagery. It’s overall playful and fun, which fits along nicely with the tone of the song. With each watch of the video, I grew to enjoy the song more and more.
