Throwback Thursday: Let’s Groove Tonight

“Let’s groove tonight.” It’s time to get on the dance floor and groove to some tracks. The retro concept produces a niche genre of music that many of us know and love. Today, we’re going to take it back and talk about some title tracks that captured that groovy retro concept that makes you want to bust a move on the dance floor.

15& - “Sugar”

15&, a former JYP Entertainment duo, released their groovy track “Sugar” on May 26, 2014. 15& members Jamie and Yerin Baek put their all into this release. “Sugar” is a track that not only has the steady tempo and characteristics of a groovy/retro banger, it also showcases the members’ strong vocal skills. These girls are known for their voices, and they did not disappoint. You can’t help but dance when you listen to “Sugar.” The track is upbeat and has a jazz effect to it that makes you sing and dance along.

SHINee - “1 of 1”

If someone told me to name five songs that showcase a retro concept, I would definitely name this track. “1 of 1” is an upbeat ‘90s-inspired track that makes you want to pull out your best dance moves. “1 of 1” is made by the iconic SM Entertainment boy group SHINee. SHINee is known for their groovy sounds but still incorporates their R&B sound. Everything about this album screams retro, and the title track did its job. The video is so bright and colorful and brings you pure joy. Overall, this is a fun song. “1 of 1” is a track that many know and love. We know the lyrics, and we know the choreography. It’s a track that you play over and over again.

f(x) - “ 4 Walls”

“Love is 4 walls.” I know this is a song we all know. f(x), an SM Entertainment girl group, dropped their hit track “4 Walls” on October 27, 2015. I think what makes this song so addictive, besides its catchy chorus, is that it is also really chill. If this song is heard at a party, everyone is going to get up and dance. It is also a track that can be played while relaxing. The funk type of beat gets this song added to the groovy/retro list. “4 Walls” is another track that if heard, everyone is going to do the choreography. It’s a fun track and an iconic representation of a groovy/retro release.
