B-Sides From Sub-Units

In the world of K-pop, there are smaller groups called sub-units. Many of our favorite groups have smaller groups that feature our favorite members. Today, we will talk about some of those sub-units and the different styles of music they release.

JUS2 - “TOUCH”

This sub-unit's debut is one for the books. On March 5, 2019, former JYP Entertainment boy group GOT7 debuted their second sub-unit, JUS2. Their mini-album FOCUS -EP has six R&B tracks many can move and groove to. One B-Side on the album is called “TOUCH.” This track is breathtaking, and the song features two fantastic vocalists, JAY B and Yugeyom. Both of their voices suit this R&B slow jam. “TOUCH” is one of my favorites off the EP. The track is just so beautiful and calming. There are no beat drops, no hard-hitting beats. It’s a laid-back ballad that can be played when you’re relaxing.

Red Velvet - IRENE & SEULGI - “Feel Good”

On July 6, 2020, SM Entertainment girl group Red Velvet had their first sub-unit, Red Velvet - IRENE & SEULGI. Our spooky queens dropped their mini-album Monster - The 1st Mini Album - EP that day and gave us five tracks to dance along to. This mini-album has a B-Side called “Feel Good” that feels empowering to listen to. You can definitely strut your stuff to this track. The synth beat and soulful vocals make an eerie track that became a favorite of mine. The song is addictive and gives that girl boss energy that Irene and Seulgi embody.

EXO-CBX - “Vroom Vroom”

On April 10, 2018, SM Entertainment boy group EXO’s sub-unit EXO-CBX dropped their mini-album Blooming Days - The 2nd Mini Album. This retro-inspired album has eight songs that give off ‘60s/‘70s vibes. The album is bright and colorful, and while listening to the song, you can hear how exciting it is. “Vroom Vroom” is another favorite of mine. This song just brings a smile to your face while listening. The members Baekhyun, Chen, and Xiumin put their all into this groovy hit. The electronic piano, drums, and guitar heard in the back makes this track retro. It’s a fun song that you can sing and dance to.
