BTOB’s Eunkwang and Minhyuk Debut as Duo 90TAN With “탕탕탕(TANG TANG TANG)”

BTOB is a group that seems often forgotten in discussions of great third generation K-Pop groups. Most often recognized for their stellar vocal prowess and ballad releases in releases, contrasted with their quirky and playful personalities offstage, the members of BTOB have been a force in the K-Pop space for well over a decade. The two eldest Eunkwang and Minhyuk are the first to form a duo amongst the six members, debuting on July 31 as 90TAN with their single “탕탕탕(TANG TANG TANG).”

“탕탕탕(TANG TANG TANG)” is a short and sweet track at just over two and a half minutes, which in a sense is unfortunate since it would be nice if the song was longer. The track gives us a groovy, ‘90s hip-hop melody, true to the decade the duo came from. HUTA's fans will immediately appreciate the song's opening rap verse, which grabs attention right from the start. The track's '90s influence is a refreshing touch, especially given the current scarcity of such sounds in K-Pop.Minhyuk’s hard-hitting rap tone is complemented by Eunkwang’s wonderful vocals, so we get the best of both worlds in this song. It’s also nice to get a very different sound from BTOB members, and the high-energy of this track is infectious.

The music video is quite unserious and does a good job of showcasing the personalities of the duo that we often see on social media posts. We love to see men in their thirties still acting silly, even as they portray delinquents and wear outfits to match. The street styling matches well with the tone of the song, and the comedic nature of their performance in the video goes well with the high energy of the song.
