Hyolyn Calls for Her “BAE” in Special Single Release

With non-stop releases this year, Hyolyn is back with a special single titled “BAE.” The song and music video were released August 16.

This release includes an upbeat, fun pop song that makes you want to dance right away. “BAE”’s feel-good melody gives the listener an instant happy mood. Hyolyn has previously released songs fit for sexy concepts, but this time around, both song and concept match a more cutesy, fun style.

We first see Hyolyn coming out of a pink, vintage car and meeting up with her friends, a.k.a. the background dancers in the music video, all dressed in matching black-and-white checkered clothing. They all walk into a diner when the music starts. Foregoing a long intro to the song, the video instead jumps right into showing the lyrics as soon as the music starts. Little plot is used in the music video, with the main focus being on performance and choreography.

The release is a catchy love song about having a crush on someone and wanting their attention in return. Hyolyn masters the Pop genre just as well as she masters Hip-Hop, which is no surprise to her fans. She’s very skilled in both singing and rapping, both of which are showcased with this release.

Fun and creative choreography (especially in the diner scene) is used throughout, and it definitely makes the music video what it is. Like always, Hyolyn does not disappoint in the dancing department.

Neon lights and shades of pink and blue are used in the video, adding something extra to the cute concept and the overall feel of the song, as well as to the retro theme throughout the music video. Aside from the diner, most of the big scenes in the music video were filmed at a skatepark and a rollerskating venue. Everything is well balanced in the video between song, performance, and concept.

Hyolyn teased both the music video and song on her Instagram with a clip from the day of filming, showcasing part of the choreography and melody while filming the diner scene.

The track is catchy and fun; it’s a jam and certain to be a hit. It instantly lifts your mood and makes you want to dance, and that’s something we think a good summer song should do. With all the colors used and the choreography displayed, the music video is also very fun to watch.

The only downside to this comeback is that it was not released earlier this summer, because it would have been the perfect song for the season. And if previous releases by Hyolyn are not your style, we still urge you to check this song out, as it is slightly different from some of her past endeavors.
