10 Spooky Music Videos to Inspire Your 2019 Halloween Costume

October is when I thrive, spooky is where I find joy, and witchcraft is my everyday desired aesthetic. If you were at this year’s KCON New York, you might have come across one scary-looking gal roaming the convention floors in a Horror Nights t-shirt with a not-so-friendly Chucky plastered on the back; it was I. With The Shining being my favorite movie, Sidney Prescott and Laurie Strode my role models, and Friday the 13th my ideal chill night-in movie choice, my spooky credentials are solid. Here is a carefully curated list by The Kraze’s in-house, full-time Halloween expert of 10 K-Pop music videos (and some fun bonuses!) that are certified to give you the spooks and inspire some Halloween costumes!

4Minute - “Volume Up”

Get glammed and get vamped! With skulls, snakes, dark eye makeup, and a lot of black and red, the ladies of 4Minute are giving us perfect contemporary glam-vamps straight out of Transylvania.

BIGBANG - “MONSTER”

BIGBANG have got to be the most fashionable monsters I have ever seen, losing possibly only to the Sanderson Sisters. For a more ominous yet high-end, stylish look, “MONSTER” serves as the perfect look book. If the Met Gala happened in October, this is what I’d expect the dress code to be.

Red Velvet - “Peek-a-Boo”

Red Velvet is serving classic slasher, this time flipping the script where the seemingly innocent final girls are actually the ones doing the slashing. Simply iconic! The red outfits also give off major Lydia Deetz wedding scene vibes.

TWICE - “TT”

Professedly haunted mansion, trick-or-treating, jack-o-lantern, costumes for every taste, TWICE certainly does it all with “TT.” I personally consider the girl group the unspoken queens of Halloween, always having fun with their concepts, on the verge of cute and creepy. “TT” is a heartwarming music video; they’re nice ghosts, they promise they just want to play!

TWICE - “Like Ooh Ahh”

Queens! Of! Halloween! TWICE’s debut music video for “Like Ooh Ahh” couldn’t possibly escape this list. While the girls themselves don’t partake in costumes this time around, they are thrown in a The Walking Dead setting that is to die for. I would happily dance my cold heart back to life with TWICE.

VIXX - “Hyde”

If you started this list not expecting to see VIXX show up at least twice, then you probably didn’t know VIXX to begin with. The group has never shied away from uncommon concepts, often diving into the paranormal. “Hyde” is a nod to the classic Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and it is done masterfully.

VIXX - “Voodoo Doll”

Here they are again. If you wanted horror, horror is what you got. Proceed with caution, “Voodoo Doll” is not scared to be graphic in its make-up, storyline, and choreography. When it comes to being cryptic, no one does it like VIXX.

Block B - “Jackpot”

Carnivals are a classic horror setting, housing our favorite unfriendly clown Pennywise in the latest It. Block B makes it even creepier with an added layer of comedy. “Jackpot” is as funny as it is scary, the costumes simply being an added layer of spookiness.

Dreamcatcher - “Chase Me”

Dreamcatcher became known as rookies for their iconically darker aesthetics, perfect for the season. The music video for “Chase Me” is weirdly mysterious, giving me major Stanley Hotel vibes over an iconic drum-beat accompanied by oddly lively vocals. The girl group has perfected the horror concept.

SHINee - “Married To The Music”

There is nothing about the “Married To The Music” video that isn’t perfect. SHINee is known for iconic Halloween costumes at SM’s annual Halloween bash, so the group naturally created a perfectly spooky music video. My biggest dream is to have been at that house party.

Bonus!

While BTS has had some cryptic, mysterious undertones and imagery to their music videos, the group really showed off their Halloween colors in their fun dance practice videos. While more funny than spooky, these definitely have to make the list!
