DKB’s Rollercoaster

DKB is here with a soft comeback, their first single album Rollercoaster. Containing only the title track of the same name and an instrumental version, this one is short and sweet—and sweet it very much is. DKB's music thus far has erred on the side of hip-hop and R&B, and "Rollercoaster" follows suit as their chillest title track to date.

"Rollercoaster" is backed by smooth synths that make a good foundation for DKB's strong vocal and rap lines (Junseo's verse? Hello??), and that energy is consistent throughout. Despite the name, “Rollercoaster” is pretty subdued—which isn't a critique if you're into “Lofi Beats To Study To”. The song is solid, in fact, it’s soothing, it just sounds a little more like a B-side. Of course, I’m speaking of a group that has a slew of B-sides that sometimes bang harder than their title track, so you be the judge.

The music video takes place in a nighttime setting with romantic ambient lighting and appropriately muted colors. The exception to that color rule is the presence of brilliant reds in just about every shot, whether it’s part of the background, someone’s outfit, or a blip in the flashy animated editing—and it looks cool as hell. DKB has time and again had unexpectedly hard choreography for songs that don’t really sound the part (ie. That one part in “All In”), and “Rollercoaster,” while not so crazy, isn’t much different. What I’m trying to say is that, for as mellow as the overall experience is, it’s not boring by any means; the song and video production are high quality and it just speaks to DKB’s standard.
