Ladies Going Solo

Every year, K-Pop grows and changes, and 2021 was no exception. This year we saw so many new girl groups debut, but we also got to see established girl group members debut as soloists. Here is a list of some of our favorite solo debuts of 2021.

Rosé

BLACKPINK´s Rosé made her debut as a soloist on March 12 with her single “On The Ground.” She was the second BLACKPINK member to release a solo project, after Jennie, and has since won many accolades for the song, including “Best Dance Performance (Solo)” at the 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards.

Sorn

Former CLC member Sorn teased the release of “Run” on TikTok at the beginning of March, and she released the English acoustic pop song worldwide on March 23, including a music video shot on Jeju Island.

Wendy

While Wendy has done plenty of collaborations over the years, she released her first solo mini-album on April 5 of this year. The Red Velvet member’s five track EP featured the song “Best Friend” with fellow group member Seulgi

Yuqi

On May 13, (G)I-DLEs Yuqi put out her digital single A Page containing tracks “Bonnie & Clyde” and “Giant.” She also released music videos for each song that dropped immediately after the mini-album. Both tracks boast multiple songwriters who helped create a memorable solo debut for the idol.

Joy

The second Red Velvet member to debut in 2021, Joy showed her creativity by remixing six classic songs for her debut album Hello. Like Rosé, she received multiple nominations and awards for her solo release, including “Album Of The Year” at the 2021 MelOn Music Awards.

Lisa

Possibly one of the most anticipated releases of 2021, Lisa’s self-titled mini-album Lalisa entered the music game on September 10. It immediately exploded worldwide, with the music video for the titular song receiving over 100 million views on YouTube and counting, and viral dance trends appearing on TikTok.
