“B.T.W”

As the lead track off the album, “B.T.W” is a chill and soothing R&B song that feels like a relieving exhale. There is a reassuring comfort that JAY B exudes confidence in his feelings for his love interest. “B.T.W,” or “by the way,” is repeated throughout the song, which reminds the listener (who is his love interest) that his feelings are true and he has no plans of leaving or changing the way he feels. As if easing the doubts that may come with a relationship, JAY B lets them know to believe in him and trust him, if they just give him a chance and open up.

Jay Park features on the song as well, doubling down on the theme of how he feels and will do anything to prove that he has eyes only on his lover. Whether it’s flying first class or spoiling his lover with whatever they want, Jay Park is willing to go the extra mile to show that he’ll do anything to make his feelings clear.

The music video is rather mellow and simple, which perfectly fits the vibe of the song. There are moments where, despite all that is going around in his surroundings, JAY B’s focus remains on the camera as if he is staring directly into his love interest's eyes. There are glimpses of the choreography to “B.T.W” in the music video, which also is a reminder that JAY B is not only a great vocalist but a great dancer as well. It’s almost a subtle “don’t forget that I can do this too, by the way” from JAY B.

All in all, JAY B’s artistry and style truly gets to shine throughout his first EP. Ranging from upbeat to smooth and slow tracks that are so groovy and relaxing, there is a track out there for all fans to enjoy. SOMO: FUME is the epitome of relief, joy, and creativity that was hidden but now found, and JAY B can only go up from here. Many can anticipate more from JAY B in the future, as it is bright and open to endless opportunities.
