K-Pop’s blue moon artist, SOMI, has made her return to music with brand new single “Dumb Dumb,” released more than a year after her 2020 single “What You Waiting For.” Opting for bright but minimalistic sound, SOMI shows mature themes in the song and its accompanying music video.

The song’s lyrics, which were co-written by SOMI, share the craziness of young love and how infatuation makes us do dumb things, and THEBLACKLABEL’s esteemed team of songwriters and producers—Teddy Park, Danny Chung, R.Tee, and 24—worked on the song with SOMI. While the track’s arrangement is a signature THEBLACKLABEL arrangement that we have come to recognize, SOMI infuses it with her attitude and style, amplifying the song’s impact. With the verses performed in her higher register and the chorus in her lower register, the song flows through interesting switch-ups. The rap verse in the song is another highlight, featuring bold lyrics performed primarily in English.

SOMI brings back her colorful personality in the music video. With bright colors and glittering outfits, the video is set in the backdrop of a high school almost reminiscent of the hit teen TV show Riverdale. The music video starts with SOMI wearing beautiful angel wings. As the story continues, she finds herself infatuated with the high school jock played by YG KPlus model Choi Yeongyu. Over the course of the story, she loses one of her wings which causes her pain, but as the video ends, we find SOMI overcoming her loss and celebrating herself at the high school dance.

With a dramatic music video featuring her acting skills and personality that fans have grown to love, SOMI returns to music with another summer bop. “DUMB DUMB” is a colorful and catchy earworm perfect for this time of the year.
