Just Feel the Music with VIVIZ’s debut “BOP BOP!”

In May 2021, K-Pop lost one of its most beloved girl groups, GFRIEND, when Source Music announced that the six members decided to part ways with the company after six years. The following October, former GFRIEND members Eunha, SinB, and Umji signed with a new label, Big Planet Made Entertainment, to re-debut as a trio named VIVIZ

The seven-track mini-album Beam Of Prism contains the bright and, in the literal sense, boppy title track “BOP BOP!” The lead single was written and composed by Im Sooho, who has worked on multiple GFRIEND songs, including chart-toppers like “Glass Bead,” “Me Gustas Tu,'' and ''Rough.” Another co-writer and co-producer is Anna Timgren, who previously worked on songs for Chungha, ENHYPEN, and LOONA. The Finnish singer-songwriter also took part in creating the catchy and serotonin-filled 2021 hit “The Feels'' for TWICE

While looking forward to positive results for re-debut, the trio received another type of positive news. Two weeks prior to their scheduled debut, all three members were announced to have tested positive for COVID-19 and went into quarantine. Luckily, all three members recovered and plans for their February 9 debut took place as planned.

Described as a Latin rhythm and disco song, “BOP BOP!” is accompanied by an equally colorful and lively music video that shows the girls oozing with beauty and charisma.

VIVIZ might be known for their singing and dancing skills, as showcased throughout the mini-album and in their debut showcase stage, but could they possibly be psychics as well?

A successful debut they definitely did have! Beam Of Prism reached No. 1 on the Worldwide iTunes Albums Chart. This makes VIVIZ the first female K-Pop girl group to top the chart with a 2022 release and also the first 2022 rookie to do so. Domestically, lead single “BOP BOP!” ranked No. 2 and No. 112 on Bugs Daily Chart and MelOn Daily Chart respectively.

The trio proves that restarting doesn’t have to mean resetting the slate. Cultivating a new image for themselves can be a challenge, especially when it’s for the second time around, but being seasoned performers, there’s no doubt that VIVIZ has more to show. The cohesive seven-track debut mini-album is just a glimpse into what they have in store for the future after having successfully reintroduced themselves to the world.
