Billlie Makes First Comeback with “GingaMingaYo (the strange world)”

Just three short months after their official debut, the girls of Billlie are back with a new mini-album. Experimentation is the name of the game with this group, from ambitious and deep cryptic concepts to the growing popularity of “noise” music in the genre. While the group’s debut title was peak noise music, the comeback tones that down a bit and makes it more palatable for those of us that have an aversion to the new trend.

“GingaMingaYo (the strange world)” has a catchy beat, but where the song suffers a bit is the opening vocals. There seems to be a focus on a blending of rapping and singing, which doesn’t quite give us a good taste of the vocal capabilities of the group. The chorus helps to make up for that portion, but for our tastes it’s not quite enough. On the plus side, the pure rap verses are quite good, and it is also a plus that the noise that was so prominent in the debut title has been toned down quite a bit in this track and remains stagnant so it’s not overwhelming. To us it shows growth even within the music genre, making the possibility of the song being more accepted and less totally experimental. It was a good move to smooth out the melody a bit.

The video is as quirky as you would expect given the album title, the collective soul and unconscious: chapter one. The video has a bit of an Alice in Wonderland feel, with the girls seen in the opening of the video traveling dimensions via different routes, such as through a mirror or through another side of a locker. The fashion is bold and punky, and the choreography is sharp and well executed. In our opinion, the video is done great and actually helps make the song a bit more agreeable as well.
