B-Sides: Best Of February
Despite being the shortest month of the year, February was packed with exciting new comebacks. From rookies to veterans, our favorite K-Pop acts shed the somber tones of winter and stepped into the freshness of spring. Let’s take a look at some of the best B-sides from February!
“Whiskey” - BTOB
Taken from BTOB's latest full-length album Be Together, "Whiskey" is a B-side track that shows off a more sensual side to the BTOB members. Written and composed by Minhyuk (HUTA), "Whiskey" fuses a slow yet uptempo beat that exudes a lot of groove vibes. Minhyuk and Peniel both show off a range of deep vocals and rap styles while the other members add a touch of rasp to their strong vocals.
“Siren” - Taeyeon
This powerful pop ballad appears on Taeyeon’s latest full-length album INVU. With “Siren.” Taeyeon sings about how she can sense a calamity striking her relationship. It perfectly portrays the calm before the storm and fits into INVU’s storyline as it leads into “Cold As Hell,” another amazing B-side on the album.
“Somebody” - Wonho
“Somebody,” the B-side from Wonho’s first single album OBSESSION, is an interesting mix of acoustic piano, synths, and guitar that harmonizes like a dream with Wonho’s breathy vocals and falsetto. Just like the lead single, Wonho once again penned the new song, expanding his versatile discography further.
“247” - STAYC
With its flat groove synth base, STAYC's "247" is a love song that is reminiscent of the R&B and pop songs of the early 2000s. While "247" highlights each of the girls' higher vocal ranges, it's the deep vocals of rapper J that truly shines as she expresses a declaration of love in the third verse, wanting you to, "give me your whole heart, not half."
“I Hated Myself (Tablo’s Word)” - Epik High
One of the rawest songs on their critically acclaimed album Epik High Is Here Part 2, “I Hated Myself (Tablo’s Word)” explores Tablo’s relationship with faith and takes a deeper dive into his attitude toward himself. This raw expression of self-hatred forces us to look inward and do some well-deserved self-reflection.
“Drowning In The Rain” - Ravi
"Drowning in the Rain" highlights a softer, stripped back style to Ravi as he raps in more of a singing style that is different to what we usually hear from him. The song layers his vocals with an auto-tune effect over an acoustic guitar and electronic beats to tell a story of losing the one you love and how "love is pain."
