August Comeback Catchup

August has been a huge month for comebacks, both in the traditional K-Pop sphere and the alternative genres. If you’ve been busy this month, catch up on the K-Hip-Hop and K-R&B releases this month below!

Gaho - “Beautiful Night”

We always love a Gaho release. “Beautiful Night” is a good mix of genre experimentation and familiar musical elements from the vocalist. As he has done in previous releases, the verses are a bit slower before the chorus explodes into a different sound. “Beautiful Night” takes inspiration from the disco era, which is both heard in the chorus and heavily prominent in the music video. And as expected of Gaho, you know you’re always going to get top tier vocals.

pH-1 - “MR. BAD (feat. Woo)”

Fresh off a performance at HallyuPopFest in London, pH-1 released new single “MR. BAD” featuring Woo. The H1GHR MUSIC rapper is known for his prowess as an artist, and “MR. BAD” is your classic mid-tempo hip-hop track. The addition of a verse from Woo adds a new vocal color to the song for a bit of variety. The song has a lighter tone than you may assume from the title, providing a more upbeat track rather than a ferocious rap-heavy song.

GEMINI - “1, 2, 3 (feat. BIG Naughty)”

GEMINI is back with a feature from BIG Naughty! “1, 2, 3” is another upbeat hip-hop track, a perfect addition to the summer playlist even as the days of summer come to a close. The driving beat is addicting and definitely gives you a feel-good mood, even if the lyrics are more focused on a breakup.

JUNNY - “Not About You”

Just ahead of his world tour, JUNNY released new single “Not About You” earlier this month. The song showcases the singer’s gorgeous vocals alongside a catchy driving beat. If you aren’t familiar with the artist, this song is a great introduction to him. The song blends Korean and English in perfect harmony, making for a great dual language track.

Ravi - “BYE”

Ravi’s new track “BYE” features Wheein of MAMAMOO and gives off vibes of popular tracks in the early 2000s. Wheein’s vocals really tie this song together and add quite a bit of depth to the track, providing a super smooth vocal line we’ve come to expect from her. While Ravi’s vocals are a bit more rough, it creates a beautiful feeling when they harmonize together.

Woo - “Ghosting”

Featuring meenoi and produced by Code Kunst, Woo’s “Ghosting” is guaranteed to be a banger. The track has a lofi quality to the melody, which definitely complements meenoi’s vocals. Woo’s rap also lacks an edge to match the tone of the track and the vocals, which makes the song very smooth. His harmonization with her in the chorus is a lovely addition as well.
