Billlie Continues Their Story in the Billage of perception: chapter two

The bewitching septet Billlie continues the next chapter of their story with third mini-album the Billage of perception: chapter two. Included in their album is the addictive title track “RING ma Bell (what a wonderful world),” an edgy rock song that is certain to capture everyone’s attention with an impressive genre shift. With a cohesive theme that collects fragments of memories from their youth as they shift into early adulthood, Billlie creates a reflective diary that evokes a turning point in one’s life.

Returning after the success of “GingaMingaYo (what a strange world)” and a remake of Yoon Jongshin’s “Patbingsu,” Billlie’s latest musical style leans toward the rock sound that many K-Pop artists have tested the water. Delving into the rock genre complements Billlie's debut storyline, leaving fans intrigued by their presence.

In the Billage of perception: chapter two, the mini-album houses six songs with song titles that will leave you curious about what each song has to offer. Beginning the album with “my B = the Birth of emotion,” the evocative, progressive synth-pop track opens up one’s emotional memories of their youth, reflecting on their growth as they look back on the past and present versions of themselves.

“B’rave ~ a song for Matilda” connects to the 1988 British children’s book Matilda written by Roald Dahl. With a belief that we each possess a special talent that makes us unique, the R&B pop number taps into the novel’s theme that goes against dishonesty in society. An acid jazz-based track with a ‘90s swingbeat, “$UN palace (Stroop effect)” begs the question of whether we are following the correct path in our lives, with hesitation taking over our minds.

With storytelling that focuses on Billie Love, “Mcguffins ~ who’s the Joker?” ponders on the series of events to her disappearance and is a continuation of “the rumor” from their debut, the Billage of perception: chapter one. Last but not least, “B@ck 2 where we Belong'' celebrates the end of this mini-album with a track dedicated to Bellie’ve — giving gratitude for the support they’ve received and each moment cherished together.

“RING ma Bell (what a wonderful world)”

With a classic and hard rock sound that will grab your attention “RING ma Bell (what a wonderful world)” is the aftermath of the loud siren ringing in their debut single “RING X RING.” Expressing the feelings they face at the turning point of their lives, Billlie doesn’t shy away from being honest about entering adulthood. This new chapter of Billlie seems promising with new beginnings and resolutions coming their way as they sing lyrics like, “I face more thrilling things into the other reality,” and, “The colors in the new world are beautiful.” As the septet enters this new world, there’s a sense of determination they’ve never experienced before. With driving optimism, Billlie is capable of tackling this turning point in their life as they sing, “What a wonderful world, I believe in me.”

The visual is everything you’ve ever wanted for a coming-of-age rock video. With chic and trendy black outfits that give off “emo girl” vibes, Billlie performs on stage with a band as they enter the world of adulthood. It’s similar to videos made by classic rock artists in the West, giving an edge to their persona. As Billlie reads the next chapter of their story and evades a monster, the pages of the book teleport each member to unfamiliar territory — on a bus, in a tattered classroom, a spiral room, and more. In what feels like an intense story of overcoming obstacles and finding freedom, Billlie find themselves flying by the end as they head to their next destination.

With one-of-a-kind song titles and a persistence to try out new genres, Billlie aims to be an eccentric and unpredictable girl group. Separating themselves from common trends and tropes, the septet has made a name for themselves almost a year since their debut. Even though this is the second chapter of Billlie’s journey, the girls are on their way to finishing the mystery novel of their lives. With the drive and energy that encourages creative expression through lore, Billlie is certain to find success as rookies.
