Get to Know: SAEMINYUM

Who is SAEMINYUM

SAEMINYUM is a Korea-based brand that specializes in a variety of metal accessories. From custom grillz, nail caps, and many more, the brand’s portfolio runs long and vast.

SAEMINYUM’s crafts are so distinctive that there’s no confusing them with anybody else. Their abilities to take ideas and turn them into fully wearable pieces is what I find the most interesting about them.

The brand previously shared their interest in sport-eyewear to their Instagram and challenged themselves in combining both of their interests together.

“SAEMINYUM grillz have no limit.⚡️”

History of Mouth Jewelry

The history of mouth accessories like grillz is extensive. Julian Randall for The Atlantic and Sam Davies for HIGHSNOBIETY both cover the history of grillz and what they symbolize to Black and POC communities.

American rapper Slick Rick is the first person who truly introduced the customizable grillz on a global scale, impacting the way people see Black Hip-Hop and changing the culture forever.

The creative advancements made in the world of mouth jewelry have allowed for brands to experiment and challenge what they originally thought they could do with mouth accessories—inspiring brands such as SAEMINYUM to experiment and become specialists in this field, curating designs that are unique to them and presenting a whole new way of wearing them.

SAEMINYUM X K-Music Industry

SAEMINYUM first came to my attention through their work on TAEYONG’s solo release, “SHALALA.”

The green and red braces-style grill on TAEYONG matched well to the ‘neo’ concept and intrigued me to what the brand represents. SAEMINYUN’s style represents those who are creative, who want more than just nails, more than a simple cap on their tooth.

Creative directors and stylists have taken note of this and have repeatedly requested SAEMINYUN’s services for editorial shoots and concept images. The brand’s clientele spans across the K-Pop and K-Hip-Hop industry, working with the likes of Lee Youngji for her Cosmopolitan Korea shoot with their Heart Rear View Mirror Grillz design and Lee Chaeyeon’s Fang Grillz for her “Hush Rush” concept.
