Throwback Thursday: English Version Edition Part 1

I bet in 10 seconds, you can name at least five tracks that have an English version or are in English. There are so many songs out there that have multiple versions that you can’t help but jam to them all. The songs on this list are all very well-known. So, let's take it back and talk about these K-Pop hits that also have English versions.

Girls’ Generation - “The Boys (English Version)”

“I can tell you’re looking at me/ I know what you see/ Any closer, and you’ll feel the heat/ GG.” I know we all screamed that part. Girls’ Generation, an SM Entertainment girl group, dropped their hit track “The Boys” on October 18, 2011, and we have been streaming this song ever since. On that same album, the English version of “The Boys” was featured and changed our worlds. We all know the lyrics to the Korean version, and we definitely know the lyrics to the English as well. It’s an iconic track that will always hold a place in our hearts.

GOT7 - “Lullaby (English version)”

“Sweet talk to me babe/ It’s magical/ Sweet lullaby.” I love this song. GOT7, a former JYP Entertainment boy group, released their amazing album, Present: YOU and on that album, we saw something that truly shocked us all: they gave us five versions of the title track “Lullaby.” There are English, Chinese, Spanish, and Korean versions of the song, and even an instrumental. We all have that one version we listen to more than the other, and for me and many others, that is the English version. Many know this song word for word, me included. It’s a fun, upbeat track that everyone loves.

NCT 127 - “Regular (English Version)”

“I be walking with that cheese/ That’s that queso/ Queso, queso.” Come on y’all, let’s sing along. On October 8, 2018, NCT 127 released their hit track “Regular (English Version).” Many of us are singing this song, word for word, bar for bar. There are so many iconic lines in “Regular” that you can’t help but sing along. Lyrics like, “Crib came with a gate or a code,” and, “Hopping out casket-fresh looking like a fashion show” make this English version stand out. “Regular” is another song that has many versions. There are English, Korean, and Chinese versions of the song. The song is hype and gets people excited. It’s so much fun and will remain iconic.

MONSTA X - “MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT”

MONSTA X, a Starship Entertainment boy group, dropped their English track “MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT” on December 6, 2019. MONSTA X has been on a roll when it comes to the release of their English tracks. “MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT” is a featured track on their hit, all-English album, ALL ABOUT LOVE. This album is jam-packed with back-to-back hits that you will fall in love with. “MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT” is a laid-back, sensual track that will make you sway your head to the beat.
