tripleS Makes Official Debut with Mini-Album Assemble

Three months after the debut of the first sub-unit Acid Angel from Asia (AAA), tripleS made their official debut this February with the first 10 members of the group. For those unfamiliar, tripleS is a “fan-participating” girl group from MODHAUS that has been teasing this debut since last February. Fans were able to vote for the members to be in one of two sub-units, the first being Acid Angel from Asia and the second being +(KR)ystal Eyes, which is set to debut later in the year. While the group ultimately has 24 members total, this debut has the first 10 announced members of the group: Yoon Seoyeon, Jeong Hyerin, Lee Jiwoo, Kim Chaeyeon, Kim Yooyeon, Kim Soomin, Kim Nakyoung, Gong Yubin, Kaede, and Seo Dahyun.

“Rising”

“Rising” is a catchy, classic pop track with a simplicity that makes it incredibly addicting. EDM influences can be heard in the chorus, but otherwise the beat remains fairly stagnant through each verse. It’s a refreshing change from a lot of the popular music in K-Pop these days, which implements as many elements as possible to hit the ever-popular mark of noise music. The basic smoothness of the vocal lines blends seamlessly with the melody. It almost gives a nostalgic vibe for the early 2000s pop era.

The opening of the music video has the girls positioned in all black in the back of a bus, and by that setup at first glance it gives off a darker concept. But as the music kicks in, the scene changes to a bus stop where we see four of the girls together acting youthful and practicing dance moves while getting teased by others around them. The concept is quite youthful, showing typical adolescent girl behavior as they come together for a dance practice. It’s actually quite wholesome paired with the optimistic lyrics, as if fighting back against teenage angst for a brighter future.

With the success of their first sub-unit and a strong start for the official debut, we’ll be keeping a close eye on this group and their upcoming new sub-unit. Check out the music video for “Rising” below!
