STAYC’s Candy Pop Comeback “Teddy Bear” Is The Sweetest Valentine’s Day Gift

There’s nothing quite more serotonin-boosting than hearing, “STAYC girls, it’s going down,” at the beginning of a song. The High Up Entertainment girl group has established themself as one of the most beloved fourth-generation acts with their catchy songs and fun performances, and we can’t get enough! Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the sextet released their latest single album Teddy Bear. The album consists of two tracks – the lead single “Teddy Bear” and the Korean version of the certified hit “Poppy.”

“Poppy (Korean ver.)” was pre-released at the beginning of the month to everyone’s delight. The original song was STAYC’s Japanese debut but received immense love worldwide for its melodious tune and easy-following choreography. The “Poppy” dance challenge went viral on the internet, and many K-Pop idols have also joined in on the trend. The Korean version is just as catchy as when “Poppy” was first released at the end of last year. In the final chorus, extra ad libs from the main vocalist Sieun were added in for this version.

The cuddly title of “Teddy Bear” perfectly encompasses STAYC’s message of hope and comfort to their fans. The group has always stood out with their unique colors, and “Teddy Bear” shows another side to them which is full of candy pop-esque and teen fresh charms. The beat-heavy instrumentation gives the song that extra punch and groove, like how Sieun and J’s rap in the second verse is supported by old-school, record-scratching, hip-hop beats. Just like a reliable teddy bear who stood by us when we were young, the comforting lyrics of the song convey a positive meaning that it’s okay to make mistakes because this is all our first lives and there’s no need to worry or rush. The song is paired with an equally colorful music video with a storyline that shows the girls’ antics, some cool animations, and a fun choreography to tie everything together. In the best way possible, STAYC’s new comeback gives nostalgia but is done in the group’s own refreshing and new way.

Teddy Bear is now streaming on Spotify and other platforms. Check out the music video below!
