Throwback Thursday: February Debuts

We are now in a new month. While February is known for love, it also marks the anniversaries for many groups who debuted in February. There are many groups on this list that we have watched grow from their debut days till now. So, let’s take it back and look at the beginning of these groups.

Wonder Girls - “Irony”

Before they were known for their iconic track “Nobody,” they had their big break on February 10, 2007, with their debut track “Irony.” Wonder Girls, the JYP Entertainment girl group, are household names when it comes to K-Pop. These girls have been in the game since 2007, and many of them have gone and become household soloists, like Sunmi. The members, Sunye, Yeeun, Sohee, HyunA, and Sunmi, are showcased in this groovy title track that featured that iconic JYP and Wonder Girls intro. “Irony” is the definition of the early 2000s, and the song is so much fun to jam to. It is great to go back and look at the beginning of Wonder Girls and see where they are now.

ASTRO - “HIDE&SEEK”

ASTRO is a boy group under Fantagio, and on February 23, 2016, they released one of the cutest debuts called “HIDE&SEEK.” Everything about this song screams happiness. This track makes me want to run in a field of daisies. The video is bright and colorful, and the dance is super adorable. You can’t help but smile when watching this video and while jamming to the song. The members, JinJin, MJ, Cha Eunwoo, Moonbin, Sanha, and former member Rocky put their all into this debut. This is a debut that goes down in history. The choreography is addictive and is one that many of us know off the top of our heads. “HIDE&SEEK” is joyful to watch, and it is beautiful to see ASTRO at their beginning.

ITZY - “DALLA DALLA”

You just had to be there for this debut. ITZY, a JYP Entertainmentgirl group, made their iconic debut with “DALLA DALLA” on February 12, 2019. To this day, there are plenty of dance covers for the song. The members, Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna, are known for their striking dance, vocal, and rap skills. “DALLA DALLA” is the prime example of the sound that ITZY has carried ever since their debut. “DALLA DALLA” is a title track that you can’t forget. Whether it be the song or the dance, it’s going to be stuck in your head. Even now, in 2024, I find myself singing the lyrics and dancing (to the best of my ability) the choreography. It’s overall a fun song.
