Love Yourself

February is all about love thanks to Valentine's Day, but regardless of your relationship status this month, whether you are single or have a partner, remember also to find time to love yourself! With help from the tracks included in this article, the words sung by some fabulous women of K-Pop will have you feeling empowered, confident, and uplifted in no time.

“I’m The Greatest” - TAEYEON

TAEYEON sings from a place of self-love and self-belief in her 2018 single “I’m The Greatest,” the B-side song from her first Japanese single album, STAY. Her vocals beautifully coast over a delicate piano, guitar, and drum instrumentation as the song emits an empowering ballad feel mixed with a slight country tone. With lyrics such as “No matter what I will lose / This is me, I’m the greatest,” “My pure heart / Will shine to illuminate the world,” and “right now, this is my fight song,”* TAEYEON’s “I’m The Greatest” is a beautiful track to listen to, as well as one to give yourself hope and strength through dark times.

“Better Me” - GFRIEND

Released in 2020 through their third and final album 回:Walpurgis Night, GFRIEND members Sowon and Umji perform as a duo in the album's sixth track “Better Me.” Against a sensual, Latin-inspired back-track, Sowon and Umji hypnotically sing a message of self-discovery when faced with uncertainty and doubt in their lives, with lyrics translating to “Don't hesitate again/ No one can stop you/ Don't try to turn around/ Erase all painful memories,” and “You lost Find it now/ Your color, your scent, I like me better now.”* Through this track, the girls share a sense of relatability and prove to themselves (and to their fans) that regardless of circumstances, anyone can become the person they want to become.

“Tally” - BLACKPINK

From their second studio album BORN PINK, BLACKPINK‘s 2022 single “Tally” is a fierce, pop track with a rock-influenced backing track, that encourages listeners to live a carefree lifestyle regardless of judgment. It's an empowering track, especially for girls who are told that they can't live a certain way by society, with lyrics such as “I say “f*** it” when I feel it/ ‘Cause no one's keepin’ tally/ I do what I want with who I like,” “Don't apologize for my behavior/ If you're offended, I don't care,” and “...my body don't belong to, nah-uh-uh, none of them though.”* If you need a bit of advice to feel confident about yourselves, then BLACKPINK's “Tally” is the perfect track to give you that uplifting boost.
