On January 21, solo artist Amber Liu made her way back over to America’s Finest City, San Diego, for her No More Sad Songs tour. Despite the cold and rainy weather the city dealt with the previous days leading up to the concert, it surely did not stop fans from turning up and having a great time.

The No More Sad Songs tour kicked off with Marielle Kraft opening for Amber, getting the crowd pumped and ready for the main act. If you’re looking for a new artist that gives off comforting and warm vibes that is focused on pop and acoustic, Marielle Kraft is one that should be on your radar. Marielle has great crowd work and for her first time in the city, San Diego welcomed her with gracious arms.

With the crowd loose and ready to go, it was only a matter of time for Amber, her band, and backup dancers to take the stage. The roar of the crowd in the intimate venue did not go unnoticed. As someone who has grown up with Amber during her f(x) days but never getting the opportunity to catch her previous tours, I did not know what to expect as a first time goer. Amber surely doesn’t disappoint as the No More Sad Songs tour was fun, emotional, and comforting. The setlist of the night included songs like “Hands Behind My Back,” “Dusk Till Dawn,” “DON’T DANCE,” and the namesake of the tour, “No More Sad Songs.” But, ironically, even though the tour emphasized no more sad songs, Amber included her slower and sadder songs that express her hardships and growth as a person. Songs like “Numb” and “hatemyself” made the crowd pause and sway along, letting her voice carry throughout the venue while raising goosebumps.

If there could be one word to describe Amber’s concert it would be: safe

Amber herself said in the middle of her set that the aim of her concert is for people to be authentically themselves and have a good time. That is exactly what San Diego’s crowd did. To see the audience jumping around, dancing freely and singing along to songs…there was just something about it that was so joyful that you couldn’t help but get swept up in the feeling. Amber also did tease two of three new songs that are yet to be released and the crowd definitely gave positive responses. One lucky fan of the night was chosen in a secret giveaway for Amber’s exclusive lululemon collaboration hoodie, which added to the fun night. Last but not least, it’s not an Amber tour unless she closes out the night with her debut hit, “Shake That Brass” which, to many old school fans such as myself, is a delight to sing along and dance to.

The No More Sad Songs tour is slated to visit Asia, Australia, and London until the end of March, and comes with great recommendations to catch Amber in a city near you. Amber’s infectious energy paired with her crew’s goofy and fun antics on stage makes the No More Sad Songs tour feel like a party. You’re guaranteed a good time when you go for sure.
