Throwback Thursday: The Year is 2018
To many people, 2018 is considered one of the best years for K-Pop. In 2018, many groups released songs that, even in 2024, we can’t help but sing and dance along to. Groups like BTS, BLACKPINK, NCT, and many more dropped bangers that will go down in history. So, let’s take it back and talk about the year 2018 and the music we got from it.
NCT U - “Baby Don’t Stop”
On March 14, 2018, we got a look into the world of NCT. That day, the iconic album NCT 2018 EMPATHY dropped. Each song on that album is known and talked about to this day. “Baby Don’t Stop” is one of the tracks on the album. That song featured two members, TEN and TAEYONG, who put their all into it. Two dance legends on one song, with skillful rapping and soulful singing, made for a track that many of us could never forget. “Stop baby, don’t stop” are lyrics we will be singing forever.
GOT7 - “Look”
I just had to talk about this song. During this year, GOT7 was on a roll with back-to-back releases. On March 12, 2018, GOT7 dropped their EP, Eyes On You. On this EP is their title track, “Look.” This upbeat, catchy pop/R&B track was a hit the moment it dropped. Everything about this brings pure joy to many iGOT7 (also known as AHGASE) out there. The song is exciting, and the video is bright and colorful. The footwork and hand movements make for a dance that many recreate. It’s a fun song that will always be played on the highest volume.
JENNIE - “SOLO”
I know you guys all remember this song. On November 12, 2018, BLACKPINK member Jennie dropped her solo track, “SOLO.” Everything about this song is iconic. The song, the dance, the outfits, everything. The excitement everyone felt when news dropped of JENNIE's solo debut was out of this world. Just based on the beginning, you wouldn't have guessed what the chorus would sound like. The calm beginning builds up into an addictive beat you can’t help but dance to, and we’ve all learned this dance. “SOLO” showed us JENNIE’s style and made us super excited for what was to come.
BTS - “FAKE LOVE”
“I’m so sick of this fake love, fake love, fake love.” Word for word, bar for bar, many of us are screaming this song from the top of our lungs. On May 18, 2018, BTS dropped their jam-packed album, Love Yourself 轉 Tear. Their title track, “FAKE LOVE,” is a staple when it comes to songs released in 2018, and their title tracks. The video is artistic, and the song is very striking. An added plus to this video is that every scene is shot on an actual set, and member/leader RM took part in the writing of this song. It’s a beautiful song that many love to this day.
