Candy Shop Makes their Debut with “Good Girl”

Brave Entertainment has debuted a new girl group, Candy Shop. The quartet consisting of Soram, Yuina, Sui, and Sarang is only the second girl group to come out of the agency and only the second active group in the agency. Sui and Sarang previously were contestants on the survival show My Teenage Girl in 2021. The first mini-album Hashtag# is supported by the title track “Good Girl.”

“Good Girl” is a lighthearted pop track that has a signature Brave sound. The beat is consistent, slowly building into the final chorus and dance break. There’s a key change as well for added flair into the last vocal line. I personally am not a fan of the repetitive chorus, but it’s a sound that others will find addicting. The touch of the R&B melody helps to keep the song fresh, and the use of a traditional music box melody in the chorus gives the song a youthful touch. Upon first listen it was hard to really get into the track, but digging deeper pulls out more nuances in the melody that help to make it more addicting.

The music video was shot in Times Square in New York City, and what I particularly like about the music video is the added CGI effects at the location to give it additional flair. As expected, a candy shop is a featured stage, the bright colors and floating CGI images of candy really drive home the innocent and youthful vibe of the track. It’s interesting to see the enhanced scenery of New York City, where neon colors are brought out in the otherwise darker urban setting. The focus of the video is definitely visuals and setting, interspersed with choreography, so there isn’t much storyline to be found. But it’s definitely cute, designed to showcase a feel-good atmosphere.
