Upon the news of Doyoung’s debut, there was no doubt that Doyoung would release something that would showcase his vocal abilities. YOUTH, lives up to the name that this album bears, bringing a youthful vibe and feeling throughout. This album could be something akin to belonging to a slice-of-life and romance anime soundtrack. Ranging from acoustic, rock, and R&B, Doyoung manages to capture your heart with this album. Whether it’s the ballads of “Warmth” and “Rewind” to the breakfree-feeling of “Rest” and “Lost In California,” he will take your breath away.

Taking the helm as the title track, “Little Light” is the embodiment of youth and finding your way. Where there is darkness, there is hope that you’ll find the light at the end of the tunnel and that sometimes the light that you are looking for is sometimes within as well. Within the music video, it showcases Doyoung who lives in a town that is shrouded in darkness. Yes, he may have things that give light (like a flashlight), but it seems as if he’s alone and there is no other means of light. Until he catches a glimpse of a firefly, the first sign of life and light around him. As he chases the firefly throughout the town, he faces different obstacles that hinder him from catching up to it. However, despite the obstacles, he manages to get back up again and chase the little light, because even if it’s just a small light, there is still hope and there is still something to get up for. When he eventually catches up, he manages to find a bigger gathering of fireflies that lights up the dark forest, which makes it all worth it and shows his perseverance is all worth it.

Overall, Doyoung provides a splendid debut that is heartwarming and tantalizing. It’s easy to get lost in the world that he shapes with his album, and it’s perfect for Doyoung as a debut.
