Artist Highlight: BIBI

The multitalented solo artist from Ulsan.

Discovery and Debut

BIBI, born Kim Hyungseo, has been writing since she was 13 years old. She began producing songs in 2015 which she uploaded onto her Soundcloud “Naked Bibi.” She was discovered two years later by Yoon Mirae at the age of 19. That same year, She signed a contract at Feel Ghood Music, an agency founded by Yoon Mirae’s husband Tiger JK. BIBI participated in the survival show The Fan in 2018 where she ranked in second place overall. She made her official debut in 2019 with the single “BINU.”

Filmography

BIBI made her acting debut in 2021 with a supporting role in the horror mystery movie Whispering Corridors 6: The Humming. She had her second and third supporting roles in 2023 with the film Phantom and thriller drama The Worst of Evil. Her first main role came the same year with the film Hopeless. She was nominated for  “Best New Actress” at the 2023 Blue Dragon Film Awards for her work in Hopeless. However, she did not win the category. BIBI is currently up for nomination for “Best New Actress – Film” and “Best New Actress – Television” for her work in Hopeless and The Worst of Evil respectively, at the Baeksang Arts Awards which will be held May 7. BIBI played a supporting role in Gangnam B-Side and The Fiery Priest Season 2 both of which are expected to air in 2024. 

Writing and Composing

As she has been writing and composing since a young age, it comes as no surprise that BIBI is credited with writing and composing for over a dozen artists since her debut. Artists that she has written for include: J.Y. Park, Way Ched, TWICE, Drunken Tiger, and many more. BIBI currently has 24 features, eight collaborations, 16 OSTs, and 14 singles. She released her first studio album Lowlife Princess: Noir on November 18, 2022. The EP consists of 12 tracks and peaked at No. 7 on the Circle Album Chart. 

Current

BIBI shook the industry with the release of her single “Bam Yang Gang” on February 13, 2024. Not only did the single chart at No. 79 on the Billboard Global 200, it also won first place on both Show! Music Core and Inkigayo. The back to back wins were BIBI’s first ever music show wins.

BIBI’s most recent activity comes from a collaboration with Jackson Wang, “Feeling Lucky.” The song is paired with a sensual music video starring the two singers. The pair performed their single together at Coachella as a part of 88rising’s set.
