Throwback Thursday: Pride Month Edition

We are now in June, and with that, we celebrate Pride Month. It is a month when many celebrate love and being able to love who they want to love. Plenty of Western artists have made music that uplifts and tells the story of the LGBTQIA+ community. As time progresses, many more K-Pop groups and solo artists have created songs that showcase LGBTQIA+ love. Today, we are going to take it back and talk about those songs that are near and dear to our hearts that show support to the LGBTQIA+ community.

K.will - “Please Don’t…”

On October 11, 2012, Starship Entertainment soloist K.will dropped a song we will never forget. His song, “Please Don’t…” is a well-known heartfelt ballad about heartbreak. The video shows actors, Ahn Jaehyun, Seo Inguk, and former SISTAR member Dawon. While K.will is delivering beautiful vocals, the story follows the three friends. You watch as Ahn Jaehyun’s and Dawon’s characters fall in love and proceed to get married. In the first half of the video, viewers witness the characters played by Seo Inguk and Dawon have developed a rocky relationship. The whole video, you believe Seo Inguk's character is upset because he’s in love with Dawon, but we receive one of the biggest plot twists in K-Pop history: he’s actually in love with his best friend, Ahn Jaehyun’s character. The plot twist is one that many talk about to this day. This video is a must-see with its amazing vocals featured, phenomenal acting, and astonishing storytelling.

Chuu - “Heart Attack”

On December 27, 2017, former LOONA member Chuu dropped her track, “Heart Attack.” This upbeat and bubbly love song follows Chuu and her love. In the song, she talks about the thrill of falling in love, and how she only thinks about this love of her life. The beautiful lyrics that describe the feeling of being in love are inclusive to all human beings. In the video, you see Chuu trying to confess her love to member Yves by handing her apples, taking pictures of her, and being in awe every time she sees her. Watching her grab at her heart every time Yves shoots the arrow and smiles at her brings a smile to your face. The video and song are adorable and very inclusive for everyone to relate to.

HOLLAND - “Neverland”

On January 21, 2018, soloist HOLLAND released his debut song, “Neverland.” For those who don’t know, HOLLAND is an openly LGBTQIA+ soloist in South Korea. Not only is he a great artist who shows LGBTQIA+ representation, but he is also an amazing singer. This track is beautiful and shows HOLLAND and his partner strolling along the beach, smiling and in love. In the song, he talks about just taking each other’s hands and flying away. He talks about wanting to leave this place and go to a different world where they don’t have to worry. It’s a beautiful song with a stunning video that shows heartfelt love.
