The Puzzling Situation of PIXY

Since 2021, PIXY has been known for combining fairy-like imagery with the aura of spooky witches. However, their current uncertain situation also spells confusion for many fans. The lack of official social media updates and a physical presence of their company has left many questions. For this week’s Ladies Corner, let’s explore the timeline of PIXY and where the group finds themselves today.

Early Debut and Member Departures

Formed by ALLART Entertainment and Happy Tribe Entertainment, PIXY originally debuted as a six-member group on February 24, 2021. Ella, Lola, Satbyeol, Dia, Sua, and Dajeong debuted with the single album With My Wings and its title track “Wings.” The group released their first and second EPs, Fairy forest : Bravery and Fairyforest: Temptation, later that year. They finished 2021 with their single “Call Me.”

In 2022, Ella took a health-related hiatus and did not participate in the group’s third EP REBORN. The group released REBORN and its title track “Villain” in June with five members. In July, ALLART Entertainment revealed that Satbyeol received injuries while promoting the EP. This resulted in her also taking a health-related hiatus. Both Ella and Satbyeol left the group in August, resulting in a four-member lineup.

New Member Addition, Tours, and Digital EP

The group announced their WANNA BE YOUR VILLAIN 1st EUROPEAN TOUR two days after the lineup change. Less than three weeks before the tour, ALLART Entertainment announced that a new member Rinji would join the group in October. In 2023, the five-member group announced an American tour KARMA IS A B ahead of releasing their fourth EP CHOSEN KARMA. They promoted the title track “KARMA” in March before heading on tour in April.

In September, the group announced their return to Europe with the LAST NIGHT IN DARK CITY EUROPEAN TOUR. PIXY teased their four-track digital EP The Voice days before its release. The Voice launched on streaming platforms on October 24. On November 25, its title track “Truth or Dare” received a special performance video directed, choreographed, and styled by Rinji. As of this article’s posting, The Voice remains PIXY’s latest release.

Members’ Other Activities and Dajeong’s Departure

Social media activity on ALLART Entertainment’s and PIXY’s official accounts dwindled when 2024 rolled around. Accounts on X (formerly Twitter) last posted in 2023, and posts on PIXY’s Instagram account have been sparse this year. Reports from fans who visited the company’s building in Seoul showed closure notices. While ALLART Entertainment moved its administrative services to Gimhae in 2023, PIXY and their artist-management team stayed in Seoul.

On June 17, Rinji posted on the group’s fancafe that she decided to pursue acting. The move came following recovery from surgery on a broken toe. Rinji officially still remains a member of the group. On June 20, Dajeong posted on Instagram that she left PIXY:

“This may be news that many of you already suspected, and delivering it to you in this way is heartbreaking, heavy, and I am so sorry I was unable to say anything sooner . . .” she said. “. . . I will do my best to deliver good news going forward as quickly as possible.”

Fans swiftly received an update when anime convention Otakon revealed two days later she rebranded as the soloist U-Chae. As for other members’ recent activities, Dia and Sua run their own YouTube channels and Instagram accounts. Dia posted her first video, a cover of UMI’s “Love Affair,” on June 29. While Sua has yet to post on her YouTube channel, she opened an Instagram account dedicated to cake decorating. PIXY’s status as musicians is currently unknown but fans can support them through other means.
