Comforting K-R&B Tracks for the Fall

While fall is our favorite time of the year, as the sunlight dwindles sometimes the adjustment is difficult. Seasonal depression can be an inevitability for some, but sometimes comforting music can help ease some of discomfort.

“Yanghwa BRDG” - Zion.T

Zion.T is a master of comforting tracks. “Yanghwa BRDG” is considered the track that gave him mainstream success, as the simple yet personal lyrics touched many hearts. Today, the song still elicits the same feelings of warmth. The simple melody of the track has an almost ballad like tone, the softness giving way for the vocals to shine. It’s easy to understand why this song resonated with so many when it was released.

“People” - Agust D

While Agust D is often known for producing hard-hitting hip-hop tracks for most of his solo work, he’s also got a number of softer, melancholic tracks under his belt. “People” definitely carries that melancholic tone, but that is what makes it feel so comforting. I’ve found when I need to cry, this track is always a catalyst. Something really hits home in the chorus, between ADORA’s gorgeous harmonizations alongside Yoongi’s rare but sweet vocals provides the ultimate comfort, as if the song is a safe space to release all your emotions.

“Eternal Sunshine” - Epik High

When writing songs, Epik High has always made a point to be very real and raw with their lyrics. Tablo has not hesitated to show the darker parts of himself, and as a result the group has touched many hearts and calmed many minds through human relation. “Eternal Sunshine” has a more upbeat feel, but it’s almost as if Tablo is giving the listener a pep talk through their darker times and cheering on for a brighter future.

“Read Me” - HA:TFELT feat. punchnello

HA:TFELT’s “Read Me” feels so warm on a cold day, and I think that’s due to her stunning vocals and the simple R&B melody of the track, coupled by its slower tempo. Somehow it’s perfect for the fall season and always finds its way to my heavy rotations as the season changes. It is somewhat surprising how well punchnello also blends into this track, given that his rap tone tends to be super sharp.

“Walking” - SURAN

SURAN is an artist that has a very distinctive vocal tone, and that is no more apparent than in a softer song like “Walking.” This R&B track relays a message of moving forward, especially amidst more difficult days or feelings, and trying to take everything in stride while moving forward in life. Sometimes it’s easy to get wrapped up in darker feelings, but this track helps remind you to keep pressing forward.
