VCHA Debuts with Girls of the Year

JYP Entertainment and Republic Records’ American K-Pop girl group VCHA debuted on September 26 with the single album Girls of the Year. Now out of their trainee period, Lexi, Camila, Kendall, Savanna, KG, and Kaylee have shown that they are ready for the world. Girls of the Year contains two songs: the title track of the same name, and the B-side “XO Call Me.”

From America to Korea: Their Journey to Debut

VCHA formed from A2K, a program where participants auditioned for a spot in an American girl group created by J.Y. Park. The initial auditions took place across America in September 2022, a few months after the show’s announcement. A2K premiered on YouTube on July 13, 2023 and lasted 22 episodes before concluding on September 21, 2023.

Following the lineup announcement, VCHA released their first pre-debut single album SeVit (NEW LIGHT) on September 22, 2023. The Kraze previously covered this release last year, looking at the songs “Y.O.Universe,” “Go Getter,” and “Know Me Like That.” “Y.O.Universe” even received limited promotions on Korean music shows: VCHA performed “Y.O.Universe” on Music Bank and Show! Music Core on September 22 and 23, respectively. Their second and final pre-release arrived on December 1, 2023, with “Ready for the World.” VCHA performed the A2K theme song in full, which was previously only shown in small clips.

Their Debut: Girls of the Year

Composed and written by Marcus Andersson, Lauren Aquilina, and Chloe Latimer, “Girls of the Year” addresses finally reaching a dream. It’s about feeling proud of one’s own hard work and achievements. For VCHA, their debut song signifies an incredible goal. They finally started their career as the latest unique girl group under JYP Entertainment. The music video shows a simple timeline of the members training all the way to stardom, posing in magazine shoots, and performing in front of large crowds.

Composed and written by Stalking Gia and Daniel Weber, the B-side “XO Call Me” could fit on TWICE’s recent albums. This dance track talks about feeling a connection with someone at a party. Perhaps VCHA will perform this song during their upcoming opening sets for TWICE’s current tour. VCHA will appear in TWICE’s READY TO BE world tour in February and March. They will perform in Mexico City on February 2 and 3, in São Paulo on February 6 and 7, and in Las Vegas on March 16.
