A2K Winning Lineup VCHA Releases Pre-Debut Single Album SeVit (NEW LIGHT)

The final lineup of JYP Entertainment and Republic Records’ American K-Pop girl group is here: Lexi, KG, Camila, Savanna, Kaylee, and Kendall will debut as the six-member group VCHA. The group comes after 22 episodes of the show A2K, short for “America to Korea,” where North American contestants performed for spots in a new type of girl group. J.Y. Park named the group after the Korean word for “illuminate,” 비쳐 (Bichyeo). Just hours after A2K's final episode ended, the group released their pre-debut single album SeVit (NEW LIGHT) on September 22, at 12 a.m. EST. This trio of tracks includes the songs performed in the two-part finale: “Y.O.Universe,” “Go Getter,” and “Know Me Like That.”

“Y.O.Universe”

“Y.O.Universe” captures the core message of A2K, that everyone is special by being themselves. J.Y. Park composed the song with Cirkut and Loshendrix. He describes the key point as “unity through diversity,” something highlighted in the lyrics that J.Y. Park wrote with Cirkut, Carlos Munoz, and Madison Love. The music video shows the members’ unique backgrounds, such as experience in art, ballet, or gymnastics, which reflects the message of different perspectives coming together as one team.

“Go Getter”

“Go Getter” inspires listeners to chase their dreams. The lyrics write a story about grabbing special opportunities, sometimes even in unconventional ways. “I switch it up, it’s not Romeo and Juliet / Who says it can’t be Juliet and Romeo?” one part goes, transitioning to the idea of Juliet serenading Romeo. J.Y. Park composed this energetic song with Space Primates, and wrote the lyrics with Bethany Ann Warner, Adrienne Ben Haim, Marc Sibley, and Nathan Cunningham. “Go Getter” spreads a positive message of bringing your all.

“Know Me Like That”

“Know Me Like That” fights against hateful words. “No, you don’t know me like that,” the main hook says, announcing that people are more than the preconceived stereotypes others choose to interpret. J.Y. Park teamed up with David Stewart and Jessica Agombar to create this punk anthem of defiance. All three contributed to the lyrics, and the former two composed the track. “Know Me Like That” closes the single album with a reminder to embrace your own qualities, not any misconceptions people judge upon.

The first of its kind, the group’s creation attracted lots of attention prior to A2K’s airing. Many felt curious about what a joint JYP Entertainment and Republic Records American K-Pop group would look and sound like. SeVit (NEW LIGHT) creates interesting anticipation for VCHA’s future. While the official debut date has not yet been set, the quick pre-debut music video and single album release conveys a potential image for the group. The package of songs brings encouraging ideas catered towards a female youth demographic. With its unique brand as the first American K-Pop group trained by JYP Entertainment, VCHA’s future appears bright.
