B-Sides Halloween Special Throwback

One of the most beloved holidays on the calendar, Halloween is just around the corner! We don’t often get creepy, Halloween-themed music videos from our favorite K-Pop stars, but there definitely are a few classics to throwback to!

“Shadow” - BEAST

Back before the existence of HIGHLIGHT, BEAST was one of the reigning boy groups in K-Pop. 2013 brought us “Shadow,” a dark and creepy aesthetic set in a classic haunted mansion, with the use of disturbing skeleton body paint as a main staple of the visuals. The song itself doesn’t appear extremely dark like some of our other choices, but there’s no doubt what the group was going for in this release.

“Mine” - Kim Jaejoong (JYJ)

2013 may as well be named the year of the creepy aesthetic, since nearly all of our chosen tracks dropped within that year. JYJ’s Kim Jaejoong dropped his first solo mini-album with the release of “Mine,” a hard rock-influenced track both musically and visually. The main visual point features Jaejoong in a spiky collar and face covered in scars, tied in chains to a giant stone structure. Not to mention all his outfits are black as night, and supernatural elements are thrown in toward the end.

“Hyde” - VIXX

Slightly more tame than the later 2013 release “Voodoo Doll,” VIXX’s “Hyde” has less of a sinister focus. But if you have a fear of spiders, you probably shouldn’t watch this video, since the creepy creatures are a main symbolic staple of the visuals. Much like BEAST, the track isn’t as intense and spooky, but the visuals certainly make up for that.

“Thriller” - BTOB

A Halloween classic! One of my favorite tracks to go back to each year, BTOB’s “Thriller” is a delightful Halloween treat that contains an emotionally intense track on top of a graveyard and supernatural aesthetic that the group pulls off in fantastic fashion. This boy group isn’t known for such dark tracks as they are mostly ballad-focused, so it’s nice to go back every year and see how many different sounds the group can master.

“Get Down” - Boys Republic

Our first track not released in 2013! Boys Republic isn’t as popular as the previous artists on our list, which is a shame considering “Get Down” was an ultimate bop. The music video, however, definitely isn’t for the faint of heart. Rather than fictional horror seen in previous videos, this one features possible real-life horror situations that are far more impactful and make the whole atmosphere 10 times more horrifying.
