NCT’s Ten and Taeyong Turn Up the Heat in “Baby Don’t Stop”

Heaven is a place on Earth for NCTzens right now.

Since January’s release of the NCT 2018 “Yearbook” videos, NCT has had an active media presence in preparation for their upcoming six-track EP release on March 14. This has meant daily tweets, live performances on music shows, photos, and hour-long V LIVEs, all in addition to members Jaehyun and Johnny’s nightly radio broadcast. It’s been full-on sensory overload from all of NCT in the best way possible.

In the midst of NCT U’s live performances of “BOSS,” teasers began to drop for NCT U’s next song, “Baby Don’t Stop,” a duet between members Ten and Taeyong. In a tidal wave of new NCT songs, Ten and Taeyong prove that they’re deserving of their own mini-unit and attention with “Baby Don’t Stop,” an addictive, deep-bass synth track that highlights their magnetic charms.

The melody of “Baby Don’t Stop” is fairly rhythmic and doesn’t vary much, which leaves Ten and Taeyong to create variation using fun vocal techniques like whispering, scatting, and harmonies. Their voices are actually very complementary to each other; Taeyong’s voice is much darker and allows a solid baseline for Ten’s twinkling, higher-pitched vocals to shine.

The music video of “Baby Don’t Stop” is equally as effortlessly cool as the single. As the primary way to listen to the track until its release on the NCT 2018 EP, “Baby Don’t Stop” has accumulated over five million views.

The choreography of “Baby Don’t Stop” is the key to the song’s music video, which primarily follows them through aesthetic, empty rooms as the duo performs. The song’s dance is highly sensual and unique and even features a move where Ten scratches Taeyong’s chin like a cat. The two play off each other very well and really sell a cooler, sexier side of NCT U together.

It’s good to see Ten perform again as a member of NCT U; his last dance performance was his SM Station track “Dream in a Dream” in April 2017. He underwent knee surgery last year and was largely absent from NCT promotions and social media as he recovered. “Baby Don’t Stop” is currently being performed as a special stage in addition to “BOSS,” and their live performance is one that can’t be missed.

Still just trying to catch your breath after “BOSS” and now “Baby Don’t Stop?” NCT shows no sign of stopping before the March 14 release date of NCT 2018; the group’s Instagram began releasing images of NCT Dream’s upcoming track “Go” on Wednesday.
